Final Thesis Development Document
Here I present my development approach and critical reflection work used to develop my project "FragMENted Layers". My project's ethos was expressive, fostering a dialogue between the past and the present through a palimpsest approach.
In "FragMENted Layers", I delve into the archaeological layers of Bath Quays, unveiling the city's rich history through various eras and technological advancements. Centred on addressing men's mental health, I propose a wellness centre that aims to mitigate the stigma surrounding this issue. By combining archaeological exploration with active therapy, I offer engaging, competitive, and non-intimidating activities tailored for men. I include interactive zones, such as reimagined exterior spaces from Bath's Georgian era and the Industrial Revolution, allowing visitors to experience the city's past through hands-on methods. Additionally, I promote biodiversity along the River Avon by incorporating both private and public habitats. I also integrate a 'Personal Touchstone' concept called "With the Skip of a Stone," which I developed through my Integrated Design project.
